CALL FOR PAPERS

The Global and the Local

in Contemporary

Literature and Film

Submissions are invited on the many ways that contemporary authors and filmmakers find their inspiration in global and local issues. Topics include, but are not limited to the following:

Globalization in Literature and Film
Globalization and Local Resistance
Is there such a thing as glocal cultures?
Diasporas and Exile
Immigration/Emigration and other Human Displacements
Cultural Hybridity and Liminality
Ethnoscapes in the Globalized World
Refugees in literature and film
Global Cultures vs Local Cultures
Minorities and Marginalization
Multicultural Representations
Colonialism and Postcolonialism
Travel and Tourism in Contemporary Literature and Film
Transnational and Transatlantic Studies

Please submit 300-word proposals for papers and/or panels by July 1, 2009 to:

WVUCOLL@ MAIL.WVU.EDU.

The program will allow twenty minutes for the reading of each paper. Include a cover letter containing the proposal’s title, complete contact information, and institutional affiliation. A limited number of papers read at the Colloquium and submitted to the Editorial Board after their delivery will be considered for refereed publication in the West Virginia University Philological Papers. Papers may be read in English, French, German, or Spanish, but only manuscripts submitted in English can be considered for publication.
