Dr. Pablo García obtained his doctorate from Indiana University Bloomington in 2006. His dissertation examined Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl’s manipulations of pre-Hispanic history as a blueprint for the criollo architects of Mexican nationalism. Dr. García’s research explores early-modern Latin American literature and culture, especially historiography and identity formation. His other areas of interest include Nahua language and culture, religion and violence, shipwreck and captivity, and folklore and nationalism. His articles have appeared in the Colonial Latin American Review and the Colonial Latin American Historical Review.
Prior to coming to WVU Dr. García was Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Modern Languages Department at Saint Anselm College in Manchester NH.
When he is not in his office Pablo García enjoys practicing Tai Ji Quan, watching movies, and making pizza.
